Automobiles Ettore Bugatti was French car manufacturer of high performance automobiles. It was founded in 1909 in the then German city of Molsheim, Alsace by Italian born Ettore Bugatti. Famous Bugattis include the Type 35 Gran Prix cars, the Type 41 " Royale", the Type 57 " Atlantic" and the Type 55 sports car.
In 1939 Ettore Bugatti's son Jean Bugatti died, and in 1947 after the death of Ettore Bugatti there was no successor to lead the factory. With close to 8000 cars made the company struggled financially and released on last model in 1950. In 1960 it was purchased for its airplane parts business. In 1990, an Italian entrepreneur revived it as a builder of limited production exclusive sports cars. Today the German manufacturing group Volkswagen owns the Brand.
