Mini is a British Automotive marque owned by BMW, which specializes in small cars. The original Mini was an iconic line of British small cars manufactured by British Motor Corporation from 1959 until 2000. Performance versions of these cars used the name Cooper, which came from the partnership with racing legend John Cooper.
In Mini was originally a product of British Motor Corporation, which in 1966 became part of British Motor Holdings. British Motor Holdings merged with Leyland Motors in 1968 to form British Leyland. In 1980, British Leyland was broken-up and in 1988 British Aerospace acquired the Rover Group, including Mini. In 1994, BMW acquired the Rover Group. In 2000, Rover group was broken up by BMW, with BMW retaining the Mini Brand.
In India, in 2016 Mini is sold as a 5-door Cooper D, 3-door Cooper-S and Cooper-D, Convertible Cooper-S and the Countryman Cooper-D.
