Indian automaker Tata Motors has launched new sub-compact SUV Nexon in the Indian market. The sub-4 meter SUV will be available in four variants - XE, XM, XT, and XZ+ and in both petrol and diesel engine options. The prices of the Nexon start from Rs5.85 lakh for the petrol variant and Rs6.85 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the diesel variant. These are introductory prices.
Nexon is Tata Motors first subcompact SUV, which will compete with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and Ford EcoSport, along with other compact crossovers and SUVs like the Mahindra TUV300 and the Honda WR-V.
Exterior and Interior Styling:
The Nexon follows Tata’s Impact design philosophy. The compact SUV is 3,994 mm long with a wheelbase of 2,498 mm. It is 1,811 mm wide with a ground clearance of 209 mm.
The top-spec trim of the Tata Nexon gets 16-inch machined alloy wheels, dual-tone roofs, projector headlights, LED DRLs, antenna with GPS, two cup holders with the rear arm rest, door open and service due reminders, day-night IRVM, park assist system with rear camera and guidelines, front fog lamps with cornering function, rear fog lamps and defogger, driver seat height adjustment, seat belt adjustment for front passengers, push button start with sensors on the door for unlocking and locking the car,
Tata Nexon’s interior is equipped with three-tone interior with premium full-fabric upholstery, multiple cubby holes and cup holders, umbrella holder in the front door, and glove box with utility moulding across all variants. The top spec additionally gets the central console with front armrest and sliding tambour door, rear 60:40 split seats and a 6.5-inch floating touchscreen ConnectNext infotainment display in the ZX+ model. This infotainment system is compatible with Android Auto and voice commands. However, Apple CarPlay will be introduced at a later date. Other connectivity options include USB, AUX-IN and Bluetooth.
Tata Nexon is available in five exterior colours – Vermont Red, Moroccan Blue, Seattle Silver, Glasgow Grey and Calgary White.
Tata Nexon will come in both petrol and diesel trims. The petrol variant is powered by a 1.2L, 3-cylinder turbocharged Revotron motor, which produces 110Ps of power at 5000 rpm and 170Nm of peak torque between 1,750 - 4,000 rpm. The 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine, which joins the Revotorq family, makes 110Ps at 3,750 rpm of power and 260 Nm of peak torque between 1,500 - 2,750 rpm. Both the engines come mated to a 6-speed manual transmission with multi drive modes - Eco, City and Sport.
Safety Features: The car gets driver and passenger airbags, and ABS with EBD as standard across the range.
