The Czech carmaker Skoda is most likely scheduled to launch the new 7-seater SUV Kodiaq on October 4, 2017 in the Indian market, however Skoda India has not confirmed the date yet. The Kodiaq is expected to be priced between Rs25-30 lakh. The SUV is likely to compete against the Toyota Fortuner, Volkswagen Tiguan and Ford Endeavour in the premium SUV segment.
Exterior and Interior Styling:
Named after the Kodiak bear found in Kodiak archipelago in southwest Alaska, Skoda Kodiaq is going to be the first 7-seater model by the company. The Skoda Kodiaq is based on the Volkswagen Group's MQB platform. The same architecture underpins the new Octavia, Superb and the VW Tiguan. The Kodiaq will be the Czech brand's second SUV in India after the Skoda Yeti. The car might be placed above the current flagship, Skoda Superb. The SUV has a long 2,700mm wheelbase and gets 190mm of ground clearance. It will also get all-wheel drive (AWD) system. The car is based on the Vision S Concept, which was showcased at the Geneva Motor Show in 2016; the Kodiaq carries a few design cues of the concept. The grille, headlamp shape and fog lamps are similar to the concept. The side profile on the Kodiaq bears the same belt line crease that runs from the front fender, all the way up to the rear fender and the wrapping around the boot. Skoda is expected to equip the Kodiaq with features such as LED headlights, park assist, touchscreen infotainment with Apply CarPlay and Android Auto, ABS with EBD and airbags.
The Kodiaq is expected to be offered with a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine that produces 141 BHP and 340 Nm of torque. The same engine is found powering its sibling, Volkswagen Tiguan. The car is likely to be offered with a 7-speed DSG gearbox, the entry-level variant might be equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission.
